Children, Sacraments and Religious Instruction
As a member of the Partner Parish of The Historic Church of St. Peter and St. Cecilia, your child learns about their faith at our Faith Formation and Youth Group programs. Whether your child attends a public school or a private Catholic school, they must attend Faith Formation at their home parish in order to prepare for their Sacraments. Religion class at Catholic school is not the same; it does not provide specific Sacrament instruction.
We offer Sunday morning classes in Faith Formation for children from preschool through 5th grade. Our Youth Group continues their religious instruction from 6th grade through high school graduation.
Goals of Faith Formation and Youth Group
The goals of Faith Formation and Youth Group programs is:
To introduce children to the person of Jesus Christ and present his teachings, ministry and major events in his life.
To assist children in learning the parables, formal prayers, sacred Scripture and meaning of the Sacraments.
Sacramental Preparation for Youth
Reconciliation—First reception of this sacrament ordinarily takes place during the Advent season for children during their second grade year of school. They will have been enrolled in Faith Formation beginning in their Kindergarten year of school.
First Eucharist— For individuals baptized in infancy, first Eucharist will ordinarily be received during their second grade year of school. They will have been enrolled in Faith Formation beginning in their Kindergarten year of school.
Confirmation— Our Diocese has returned the reception of Confirmation for youth to their eighth grade year of school. The comprehensive catechetical curriculum for grades prekindergarten through eighth grade brings together the education needed to be properly prepared for Confirmation.
